Brother of the marshal. Served in the Gardes de la Porte for four years, then in 1785 became a second lieutenant in the La Fère regiment. He became a topographical engineer, served in Italy in 1796, and was made an adjutant-general on 7 September 1797. He was chief of staff of the Army of Naples in 1799, and was promoted general of brigade on the field of battle of the Trebbia (19 June 1799). In 1803 he served in Holland as Mortier's chief of staff. He was promoted general of division on 1 February 1805. He took part in the campaigns of 1805 and 1806 (as Bernadotte's chief of staff), earning distinction at Austerlitz and the capture of Lubeck. While serving in this area he caught a fever, had to leave the army, and died shortly afterwards. Sources: Michaud.
