Boudet had been promoted sergeant of grenadiers in the 2nd battalion of the 4th Line demi-brigade on 3 June 1795. He was one of a small group of men belonging to the 4th Line who rescued Bonaparte after he and his horse fell into the marshes on the first day of the battle of Arcole. During the process, Boudet was hit by a ball and killed. The story is told in: Durieux, J. “Bonaparte au pont d'Arcole.” Revue des études napoléoniennes, no. 2 (1912): 182-89, p. 184.
