"Of savoyard origins. His father, Pierre-Antoine, was senator of Savoy from 26 April (or 4 June) 1749; his elder brother, Charles, also belonged to the Senate, from 20 September 1782. One of his uncles was curate of Saint-Julien from 1752 to 1767. Cadet in the regiment of fusiliers on 16 (or 20) April 1759; ensign on 7 March 1763; lieutenant on 16 May 1796; captain-lieutenant on 20 November 1774; captain on 17 May 1778; battalion major on 5 October 1787; lieutenant-colonel on 24 July 1792; commander of a provisional regiment of grenadiers (8th and 9th battalions) on 12 February 1793; colonel on 6 January 1795; brigadier-general of infantry on 26 March 1796; he was killed on the field of battle less than a month afterwards ..." Some sources give Dichat the title of chevalier, others that of marquis.
